Newsletter - September 2018

Updated: Jan 4, 2019

At the recent AGM Jenny Myers handed over the role of President to Owen Soanes.  We would like to thank Jenny for her time and effort she has put into the role of not only President but also the Manager of the Club for the last four years. We welcome Owen to the role of President.

We are pleased to welcome Deb Wulf to the committee.  Deb has kindly taken on the task of looking after subscriptions and memberships.

We would also like to thank Murray Jamieson for his time spent in the role of Patron, which he has now stepped down from.

Thanks also go to Susan Sliedrecht for taking on the responsibility of Hall Hires.

If there is anyone in the Club that would like to offer up a couple of hours a month attending the Committee meeting, we would be very pleased to welcome some more Committee members.

For the first time in a long time we do not currently have someone looking after Club Maintenance, and we’d be extremely welcoming of anyone (or 2 or 3 people) who would like to put their hand up to help out here.  This does not mean you would be responsible for ‘doing’ all the maintenance around the Club but facilitating it, and it is also not a requirement that you need to be on the Committee.  If you would like to offer or would like further information, please email

We have been advised by our website provider that they are changing the platform that the website is currently sitting on.  What this means is that we have to redo our website.  We thought it could be a good opportunity to see if we have any website experts within the membership that might be interested in taking on this task.  If you are interested please email or contact Fiona Caskie on 0212114429.

By now, you should have all received the new season 2018/19 membership renewal forms.  Remember to get your payment in before the end of September to qualify for the discounted price – after that it will be an additional $10 ($5 for juniors).

For those that are entered in an Interclub team, it is particularly important that you pay your subs now.

If for some reason you have not received a membership form, or have any queries please email

In addition to our organised Tuesday night club play, a reminder that we do also have Club play on Sunday afternoons from 3.00pm.    What better way to spend a nice sunny Sunday afternoon than playing tennis, followed up by a thirst quenching drink from the Bar!  It was great to see such a good turnout on Sunday enjoying good social tennis.

Please note that coach Amanda is on a well deserved holiday and will not be at Tuesday club night until 17 October.

Senior Interclub has now started, with St Heliers having 4 teams entered, and Junior Interclub will be starting at the beginning of October.  Senior Interclub is played on Saturday’s from midday and Junior Interclub is on Saturday and Sunday mornings so please bear this in mind if you are thinking of playing during these times.

Please Note: On a Saturday morning there is no court availability for general play as there is also Junior Coaching on.

We’d be interested in your ideas for Social Events - such as 1 day club wide tournaments (could be mini tennis, parent/child), theme nights, trivia nights, etc.  Send your suggestions to
